Common questions
Questions families ask most.
Practical answers about services, payment, getting started and what to expect. If your situation is more specific, a Freedom Senior Services coordinator will talk it through with you.
Paying for care
How much does care cost?
It depends on the service and how it is funded. Medicaid waiver programs may cover care for people who qualify. The VA determines coverage and any applicable copay for care it authorizes. Private pay is available for some services and markets.
Paying for CareWill Medicaid cover care?
Medicaid waiver programs cover certain home and community-based services for people who qualify. Each state runs its own programs, and Freedom’s participation varies by state and service.
Paying for CareCan I be paid to care for a family member?
It depends on the program, your relationship to the person and where you live. Some programs allow eligible family members to be paid for approved care. Ask a coordinator which pathways Freedom currently supports.
Getting started
What happens when I call Freedom?
A coordinator asks who needs care, where they live and what has changed. Then we explain the services and payment paths that may fit and what to do next.
Do I need to know which service to ask for?
No. Tell us what has become difficult and what matters most to the person. We will help you understand the options.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
Some programs require a physician statement, assessment or authorization. Call us first and we will explain what applies to the path you are considering.
How quickly can care start?
Timing depends on the service, any required authorization and available staffing. Your coordinator will explain the steps that apply to your situation.
Our services
What services does Freedom offer?
Freedom provides home care and attendant care, adult day health, Intellectual and Developmental Disability Programs and veteran care in the communities where those services are available. Freedom also provides Kentucky waiver case management.
Who are Freedom’s caregivers?
For agency home care, the caregivers we employ are W-2 employees hired from the communities we serve. We screen, train and supervise them for their roles. For services that require it, visits are verified electronically.
Feeling understood
What if English is not the language used at home?
Tell your coordinator. Language assistance is available at no cost, and we use what you tell us about language, routines and culture when planning care.
Can Freedom guarantee a caregiver who speaks our language?
No. Language-matched staffing depends on availability in your area. Your coordinator can explain what is possible and arrange language assistance when needed.
Trust
How do I raise a concern about care or billing?
