For Those Who Served

You served. Now we serve you.

The VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide program can authorize support with daily activities for eligible veterans. The VA determines eligibility, the services and hours authorized, and any applicable copay. Freedom Senior Services provides the care where we participate and can meet the authorized need, coordinating with the veteran’s VA care team.

Help at home, built around the veteran

For eligible veterans, the VA determines what services and hours are authorized. Freedom provides approved care according to the veteran’s plan where we participate.

  • Personal care

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility when included in the authorized plan.

  • Meals and home routines

Meal preparation and approved household tasks included in the plan.

  • Medication reminders

Help staying on schedule, as written in the care plan.

  • Companionship and respite

Company for the veteran and support that may give family caregivers time away, when included in the authorized services.

Start with the veteran’s VA care team.

  1. Make sure the veteran is enrolled in VA health care.
  2. Ask the veteran’s VA care team, social worker or local VA medical center about an assessment for Homemaker and Home Health Aide services.
  3. The VA evaluates eligibility and determines whether services and hours are authorized.
  4. If services are authorized, ask whether Freedom Senior Services is available as a provider in the veteran’s area.
  5. If Freedom participates and can meet the authorized need, our team will explain the next steps for beginning care.

Not sure where the veteran is in the process? Call us. We can help you identify the next step. Questions about VA eligibility, benefits or cost should be confirmed with the veteran’s VA care team or a qualified Veterans Service Officer.

The right support may include time at a center.

Some veterans may also be authorized for adult day health through their VA care plan. Where Freedom is an approved provider, a coordinator can explain whether a Freedom center is an option.

Questions veterans and families ask

Does the veteran pay for VA-authorized home care?

The VA determines coverage and any applicable copay for authorized services. Ask the veteran’s VA care team about the cost in your situation.

Does Freedom decide whether a veteran qualifies?

No. The VA determines eligibility and authorizes services. Freedom provides care where we participate and can meet the authorized need.

Does the veteran need VA authorization?

Yes. VA-funded services must be authorized by the VA before care begins. Freedom can help you understand where we fit once the VA path is underway.

What if we have questions about other VA benefits?

VA pension and other benefit programs are separate from VA-authorized health care services. A VA benefits counselor or Veterans Service Officer can help with benefit questions outside Freedom’s role.

Start with the veteran’s situation.

Tell us what kind of help the veteran needs and whether you are already working with the VA. We will explain where Freedom may fit and what to do next.

Cared for. Cared about.

Services, programs and availability vary by location and VA authorization. A coordinator will tell you what applies where you live.
